COVID-19 Student Relief Bursary Program Details
Students who have been directly impacted by Covid-19, and require urgent financial need such as travel, relocation, medical or lost wages may apply for the Student Relief Bursary. Bursary amounts will vary from student to student ensure the support is meaningful, to a maximum of $2,000 per academic year. Please note that funds are limited, and bursaries are not guaranteed.
Funds for fall applications have been disbursed. Applications for winter semester are open and will close Friday, April 16, 2021.
Previous applicants who received the maximum $2,000 in the fall semester are not eligible to re-apply. Students in urgent need may also contact fundingadvisors@nait.ca.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students must be enrolled full-time
- Degree, Diploma, Certificate, Programs (including Academic Upgrading): Full-Time enrollment consists of being enrolled in 9 credits (or three classes)
- This full-time definition is not to be used for Student Aid eligibility.
- English as a Second Language: Full-Time enrollment consists of enrollment in three courses
- Apprenticeship: Full-Time enrollment consists of being enrolled in block training
- Students must have a minimum GPA of 1.7
- Students must have tried other options including: Student Aid, NAIT payment plan and savings
- Students must demonstrate and have documented urgent financial need related to COVID-19. Documentation will be requested to support financial need or COVID-related expense
To apply for COVID-19 Student Relief Bursary
- In the myNAIT portal, open self service.
- Click on the student awards and financial aid title.
- If you meet basic eligibility criteria, you will see a special application period under scholarships & bursaries in the left-hand menu.
- Click on the Special Application link.
- Select “Yes” to apply for bursaries. This will open the COVID-19 Student Relief Bursary application. Fill out the form.
- If you have already applied and your financial circumstances have changed, or if you have additional need, please email fundingadvisors@nait.ca with the subject line COVID Bursary.
Please note: If you meet eligibility criteria for general NAIT scholarships & bursaries, you will receive a separate task in your MyNAIT Portal.

Student Aid
Government loans and grants can be a great option for students who need additional assistance covering tuition and living costs while attending post-secondary. Students enrolled in Apprenticeship, Degree, Diploma, Certificate or Open Studies programs may be eligible for financial aid options.
To be eligible for student aid, you must be a Canadian citizen, have permanent resident status or protected person status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
NAIT’s definition of a full-time student may not be the same as your loan provider. Please check your Loan provider’s website for their definition.

Scholarships
Depending on the individual scholarship, other criteria may also be considered, such as volunteer work. The most important consideration for selecting recipients of scholarships is academic achievement.
Funds awarded to students who:
- Demonstrate excellent academic achievement
- Are enrolled in 80% or more of a full course load (current term and one of the previous two terms)

Bursaries
Unlike loans, bursaries don't need to be paid back. Depending on the individual bursary, other criteria may also be considered, such as volunteer work. The most important consideration for selecting recipients of bursaries is financial need.
Funds awarded to students who:
- Are maintaining satisfactory academic achievement, although students who have a recorded failure or incomplete may still be eligible for bursaries
- Demonstrate financial need
- Are enrolled in 60% or more of a full course load (current term and one of the previous two terms)
