What is a micro-credential?

A micro-credential is a certification that recognizes specific skills, learning outcomes or competencies that are valued by industry and employers. A skill is a specific learned activity, whereas a competency is a combination of knowledge, skills and behaviours, and includes not only “what you do”, but “how you do it”. NAIT issues one micro-credential, in the form of a digital badge, for each competency or learning outcome.

Benefits of micro-credentials

  • Shareable: Display your digital badge to your peers, professional network and potential employers.

How are micro-credentials beneficial to employers and organizations?

  • Scalability: Micro-credentials allow all types and sizes of organizations to identify specific skills in both current and potential employees.
  • Responding to emerging areas: Micro-credentials allow employers to resolve new and emerging skills gaps in their workforce in a quick and cost-effective manner.
