Emergency Management and Business Continuity

NAIT's Emergency Management and Business Continuity (EMBC) department ensures we are prepared for disasters and emergencies in an effective, coordinated, and timely manner.

NAIT's priorities for planning and response to incidents are:

  • People: Protection of health and life safety
  • Environment: Protection of the environment
  • Assets, Operations, and Essential Services: Ensuring continuous service to the NAIT community, and mitigating any financial, operational and asset impacts
  • Reputation: Protection of the NAIT brand and reputation

Call 911

When in doubt, call 911.

Our Shared Role in Emergencies

Emergency preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. NAIT has developed Emergency Event Instructions for NAIT’s community members to follow in the event they need to respond to an incident. Anyone attending campus should read through the instructions, and download the NAIT Alert app to take the information with you and be notified in case of an emergency.

In all cases, be prepared to respond to an emergency. Call 911 if needed, or NAIT Protective Services for non-urgent, non-life-threating situations.

Integrated Emergency Management Plan

NAIT has developed an Integrated Emergency Management Plan (IEMP) which outlines all emergency management and business continuity information that guides actions, decision-making, communications and coordination of our planning, mitigation and response priorities.

Business continuity is a way for us to prepare the organization effectively for a major disruption due to a disaster or emergency event. During the development of the NAIT business continuity plans, we created mitigation and preparedness strategies to effectively respond to and recover from a disruption. Our business continuity plans ensure that core services are maintained through the response and recovery periods following a disaster or emergency event that causes a business interruption. We continuously work with stakeholders across NAIT to identify core services and implement strategies that ensure business continuity and resumption.

Familiarize yourself with the location of the emergency management and business continuity information, as well as review that information regularly, so you are prepared and able to respond in the event of a disruption, disaster, or emergency.
