Program Interviews
Some NAIT programs may include an interview as part of the application process in addition to evaluating a student’s academic qualifications. For these programs, final selection for admittance is based strictly on interview scores. Review your program page to see if the interview process is a part of the application.
Programs that require an admissions interview include:
Effective Fall 2025 and onward, all applicants who meet the program's minimum entrance requirements and submit all required documents will be invited for an interview. To learn about interview selection considerations, view the competitive entrance requirements listed on your program’s page.
How to get an interview
Step 1: Apply early
Apply early as these programs are in high-demand and can fill quickly. Be sure to know the application deadlines listed your program’s page.
To ensure your application processing is not delayed, it’s important to promptly submit all required transcripts and documents as soon as possible after you’ve applied. If you attended school only in Alberta, NAIT will receive your Alberta transcripts on your behalf.
Step 2: Monitor your to do list and application status
To Do list
Review your application’s To Do list on your MyNAIT portal as you may be required to provide additional information or documents, such as a progress report or proof of enrolment. Make sure you provide any requested documents by the posted deadline to avoid cancellation.
Pending Program Decision application status
Monitor your application in MyNAIT throughout the admission process to stay informed of your status and respond to requests for information. Your application status in MyNAIT will change to Pending Program Decision if you’re selected to complete an interview.
- If selected, this status will remain until your program completes your interview and evaluation, at which point your application status will be updated.
Step 3: Watch for an interview invite via email
You will be contacted via email (to the address listed on your profile on MyNAIT) with instructions on how to complete your program interview. This email is usually sent 1-3 weeks after your application status changes to Pending Program Decision.
Please monitor your email frequently, including junk folders, as this invitation includes time-sensitive information!
Not selected for an interview?
If you did not meet the program’s minimum entrance requirements and/or your application is incomplete, you will not be invited to complete an interview. Your application status in MyNAIT will be updated accordingly.
If you've applied to the Winter 2025 intake or earlier, only those applicants deemed as competitive are shortlisted for interviews. To learn more about a program’s competitive academic average or other interview selection considerations, view the competitive entrance requirements listed on your program’s page.
If you're an Indigenous applicant (domestic), please refer to the Indigenous Admissions Pathway for details on the personal story requirement instead of a program interview.
What to expect if I receive an interview
Pending Program Decision application status
While you’re waiting for your interview email invite, your application status in MyNAIT will be updated to Pending Program Decision. This status will remain after your interview and until the evaluation has been completed.
Interview timeline & deadline
Typically 1-3 weeks after your application status has changed to Pending Program Decision, you’ll be emailed your interview invitation. This email will include the deadline you have to complete the interview.
Review this email carefully as it will include key information and details about the interview process.
Interview scoring and waitlists
If an interview score:
- Meets the competitive score: Applicants are offered seats on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Falls below the competitive score: Applicants application status will change to Pending Interview Decision until approximately 4 months after applications open. At that time, if additional seats are available, varying scores may be considered. If no seats are available, your application will be processed accordingly and your application status will be updated.
Once a program is full, qualified applicants are placed on a waitlist. If a seat becomes available, those with the highest interview scores will be offered a seat first.
Due to the volume of applications and interviews, interview scores and feedback are not provided to applicants.
Watch for an application status update post-interview
Within 6-10 weeks after your interview’s submission deadline, your application status in MyNAIT will be updated. The interview review and evaluation process takes time, so we appreciate your patience while you wait. There’s no need to contact us during this period.
Please note that your interview to do list item will remain on your application’s To Do list in MyNAIT while your interview is being evaluated.
