Transfer credit requirements update
Effective September 1, 2026, transfer credit assessments must meet the following minimum standards:
- C minimum grade
- 1000-level courses (1st year courses) completed within 7 years
- 2000-level and higher courses (2nd, 3rd or 4th year courses) completed within 5 years
Apply for transfer credit ASAP. Students starting at NAIT before Fall 2027 may be eligible for previous requirements if they are more favourable, such as lower grade requirements or longer course validity periods. Apply before September 1, 2027 to be considered.
Step 2: Pay your non-refundable tuition deposit
You must be accepted into the program and pay your tuition deposit before you can apply for transfer credits. Note that transfer credits can only be used to satisfy up to 50% of your program requirements at NAIT.
Step 3: Determine the NAIT courses that match your previous courses
You'll need to identify which NAIT course(s) are most similar to the course(s) you've previously completed. Keep in mind:
- The course must be a credit course.
- A completed course can only be used once for transfer credit.
- The course content must closely align with the NAIT course, meeting a minimum of an 80% match to NAIT course outcomes.
To find a course match:
- Check Transfer Alberta to see which courses at NAIT are equivalent to your previous courses.
- If you can't find a match, review the NAIT course outlines for your program:
- Go to your program page
- Select Courses
- Select the individual course(s) to review the course outline.
Bachelor of Business Administration applicants: If you had completed a business diploma or degree and have been accepted to NAIT’s Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program, you may be eligible for for Advanced Standing credits instead of transfer credit. Review advanced standing requirements before applying.
Step 4: Gather the course outlines/syllabi
As part of your transfer credit request, you need to provide detailed course outlines or syllabi for the courses you completed:
- Contact the institution or program where you completed the courses to request a detailed course outline or syllabus from the year that you completed the course.
- Ensure the document includes key course information, such as:
- Course learning outcomes, assessment methods, grading rubrics, etc.
Completed the course at NAIT? If the course was taken in another NAIT program, you can find the course outline on the program page, under individual courses in the Courses section.
