Letters for Immigration Purposes

International students’ applications for Canadian visas and permits generally require supporting documentation from a designated learning institution. The following categories will help you navigate where to get these documents at NAIT and what you should do.

What would you like to apply for?

Initial Study Permit (Degree/Diploma/Certificate students)

What you need: Letter of Acceptance

Where to find it: In your MyNAIT portal. Select "Open Self Service", followed by "MyNAIT e-letters".

What you need to do first: Pay your tuition deposit

Initial Study Permit (English as a Second Language)

What you need: Letter of Acceptance

Where to find it: In your MyNAIT portal. Select "open self service", followed by "MyNAIT ELetters".

What you need to do first:

Study Permit Extension (and you are currently studying at NAIT)

What you need: Study permit extension letter

Where to find it: Submit an Immigration inquiry through NAIT.ca/help.

What you need to do first:

  • Register in courses for the next semester
  • Ensure the mailing address in your MyNAIT Portal is correct by selecting "open self service", followed by "Profile".

Temporary Resident Visa

What you need: Proof of next term's enrolment (Confirmation of Enrolment letter).

Where to find it: In your MyNAIT portal. Select "open self service", followed by "manage classes".

What you need to do first: Register in courses for the next semester

Co-op Work Permit

If your program has a mandatory Co-Op or Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component:

What you need: Co-op Letter

Where to find it: Submit an Immigration inquiry through NAIT.ca/help.

What you need to do first:

  • Confirm your program has a mandatory co-op or Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component. If unsure, please contact your program
  • Make sure your mailing address on your MyNAIT Portal is correct by selecting Open Self Service on your MyNAIT portal, followed by Profile

If your program has an optional Co-Op or Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component

What you need: Co-op Letter

Where to find it: Submit an Immigration inquiry through NAIT.ca/help.

What you need to do first:

  • Confirm with your program that you have met the optional co-op or WIL requirements 
  • Make sure your mailing address on your MyNAIT Portal is correct by selecting Open Self Service on your MyNAIT portal, followed by Profile

Post-Graduation Work Permit

What you need: Post-Graduation Work Permit letter, also known as the Completion of Studies Letter

Where to find it: on your MyNAIT Portal by selecting Open Self Service, followed by MyNAIT ELetters

What you need to do first:

  • Wait 6-8 weeks after you complete your credential 
  • Make sure your mailing address on your MyNAIT Portal is correct by selecting Open Self Service on your MyNAIT portal, followed by Profile

Letter of support for future applications

If you require documentation to identify how your studies were affected by COVID-19, you can request a COVID-19 Mode of Delivery letter from NAIT. You can do so by submitting a Contact Form request, select topic: Enrollment/Education Verification, subcategory: COVID-19 Mode of Delivery letter.
