My preferred name is different from my legal name. How do I add my preferred name to my account?

If you would like your instructors and peers to refer to you by a name other than your legal/primary name, you can identify a chosen name through your student portal. Your chosen name will appear on Brightspace, Microsoft 365 apps including Teams and Outlook, myNAIT profile, and instructor-facing class lists.

To update your chosen name in the MyNAIT portal:

  1. Click the self-service button on the right-side menu
  2. Click on the profile tile
  3. Under names, click the 'plus' (+) button
  4. Update the 'First Name' field, and select save

If you have any questions or need assistance completing these steps, contact the Student Service Centre.

Your student record, transcript and parchment/certificate will continue to reflect your legal name.

Requesting transcripts, letters and documents

How do I request a transcript?

Official transcripts from NAIT are issued and accessed through MyCreds™, a secure digital transcript sharing platform. Transcripts are requested online through your MyNAIT portal:

  • Select Open Self Service
  • Choose Academic Records, then Request Official Transcript

When your transcript is ready in 1-2 business days, you will receive an email confirmation from MyCreds™ to access your document. You will be able to purchase MyCreds™ share credits ($16 plus tax per share, non-refundable) to share your transcripts with organizations, such as post-secondaries or employers), quickly and securely. You can learn more on the Ordering Transcripts page.

For alumni who attended NAIT prior to 2000 and have not returned since, or are former Fairview College or Westerra students, they will need to request their transcript to be uploaded to MyCreds™ using the online Contact Form. Select topic ‘Academic Records’, and subcategory ‘Official Transcripts on Mycreds’. Due to the historical nature of these transcripts, they cannot be ordered in person.

Apprentices must request their transcripts through Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training

I took all the courses necessary to graduate, but it does not show on my transcript that I have completed my program. Who do I contact?

After your final grades have been posted on your final transcripts, it takes approximately six weeks for the Registrar’s Office to review and confirm program completion. Once this has been completed, please allow for at least two more weeks for the credential notation to be added to your transcript.

If you have concerns about your eligibility to graduate, please contact your program office

How is my Graduation GPA (GGPA) and honours standing calculated?

For degree, diploma, and certificate students, your GGPA is calculated using only the courses required to satisfy the program requirements. If you retake a course, only the highest grade will be included in the GGPA calculation. Your GGPA determines your eligibility for graduation (minimum GGPA of 2.0 or higher) and for honours standing (minimum 3.7 GGPA or higher).

When calculating your GGPA, it is based on the first decimal point and will not be rounded. This maintains consistency and fairness in evaluating academic achievements. Therefore, the GPA displayed on your transcript will be the exact calculation, without any rounding adjustments. For example, a GGPA calculated at 2.786 will be shown as 2.7.

Refer to the how to calculate your GPA for detailed step-by-step instructions.
