Advanced Healthcare Leadership Program

Leadership roles in the healthcare industry require practitioners to develop soft skills including leadership, supervisory skills, team leadership, interprofessional and interpersonal competencies, organizational management, professionalism, ethics, stress management, health and wellness, mental health and wellbeing. Our program offers these in addition to Crisis Management Essentials courses which will provide you with the skills needed to help organizations in crisis situations.

Advanced Healthcare Leadership is a new 2-year program created for international students who are hoping to earn a certificate while preparing for the Canadian Workplace. The employment outlook for leaders in healthcare is ever increasing and in high demand so prepare yourself by learning the latest job-ready skills and knowledge with the latest technology, trends, and methodologies. This program allows you to build on your existing education and work experience to become an effective leader in your field.

This program offers flexible completion options, allowing students to leave after one year for the Healthcare Leadership and Supervision Certificate of Completion or to remain in the program for the 2-year Advanced Healthcare Leadership Certificate!

Advanced Healthcare Leadership

*Full-time is considered 135 instructional hours or more per term. 

Immigration Information

  • International students are eligible to apply for a study permit for this program  

  • This is a non-credit program. Currently, these programs do not meet the requirements for the post-graduation work permit. We are waiting for an update from the provincial government, so please connect with us if you have questions: continuingeducation@nait.ca

    • You can apply while we wait and request a refund if you decide not to study in our program. Please visit our FAQ page for details.

  • If you submitted your study permit application before Nov. 1, 2024 and are applying for a PGWP on or after Nov. 1, 2024, you must meet the new Language Requirement.

  • If you submit your study permit application on or after Nov. 1, 2024, you must meet the new Language Requirement and Field of Study Requirement, to be eligible to apply for a PGWP.

  • International graduates of this program are currently not eligible for one of Canada’s permanent residency pathways, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). 

This program is not considered a Post-Graduate or Masters-level program.


Program Options 

This program is offered as a 2-year comprehensive healthcare leadership program, targeting experienced applied healthcare professionals seeking leadership opportunities in the healthcare industry in Canada.  

As a commitment to providing flexible opportunities for students, those who wish to partake in a 1-year program, can elect to opt out of the program after completing Terms 1 and 2, to achieve the Certificate of Achievement in Healthcare Leadership and Supervision. For those who wish to remain for the 2-year program, students will achieve the 2-year Certification of Achievement in Advanced Healthcare Leadership.

Dates and Deadlines

Applications can be submitted any time before the application deadline, but we recommend submitting your application at least 90 days before the application deadline.

Academic requirements

Successful completion of one of the following in an applied Healthcare or Life-Sciences field:  

  • 1-year post-secondary certificate (achieved inside Canada only)  
  • 2-year post-secondary diploma  
  • 4-year post-secondary degree  

When applying, applicants will need to scan clear copies of:  

  • official transcripts and certificate/diploma/degree from post-secondary education.  
  • If documents are in a language other than English, they must be officially translated. View this list of certified translators in Canada.   

OR  

  • An official WES or IQAS credential assessment showing successful completion of a Diploma or Degree.

English Language Requirements

If you completed your academic studies in an exempted country you will not be asked to provide proof of English language proficiency.   

Otherwise, you are required to provide proof of English language proficiency. Please note, many language exams expire 2 years after the testing date. To be accepted by this program, your test cannot expire before Term 1 begins. If it does, you will need to submit a new test before you can be admitted. The following are acceptable as proof of English language proficiency:   

  • IELTS (Academic Format) - minimum of 6.0 
  • 6.0 in the speaking component  
  • 6.0 in the reading component  
  • 6.0 in the listening component  
  • 6.0 in the writing component  
  • Pearson Tests of English Academic - minimum overall score of 58 
  • TOEFL Internet Based or TOEFL Special Home Edition test - minimum of 83, with no individual component below 20, and the writing component no less than 23  
  • 20 in the speaking component  
  • 20 in the reading component  
  • 20 in the listening component  
  • 23 in the writing component  
  • NAIT's Level 6 Courses NEAP611, NEAP621 and NEAP631  
  • Successful completion of all 3 courses with 60% or higher in each course  
  • NAIT English Language Proficiency Exam - minimum of 75% or higher in each of the four components (speaking, listening, reading, writing)  
  • Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLB) - minimum of 8 in each component (speaking, listening, reading, writing)  
  • Duolingo English Test - minimum overall score of 115, with no band below 100   
  • International Language Academy of Canada (ILAC)  
  • Successful completion of Pathway 3.2 with a mark of 75% or higher  
  • Global Village - minimum of 80% in Level 7 or higher

Tuition Fee Deadlines  

  • Term 1: Within 30 days of being accepted into the program   

  • All following terms are due 30 days before each term  


General Tuition Policies  

As you navigate your program, it’s important to be aware of the following policies:    

  • A payment will be applied against any outstanding balance from a previous term before being applied to current or future tuition and term fees.   
  • Students are responsible for all fees charged to your student account. If you add or drop courses after you have paid your fees, your account balance may change.   
  • Ensure any outstanding balance is paid by the deadline to avoid complications  
  • You must meet payment deadlines even if you have applied for student loans, scholarships, bursaries, or sponsorship.   
  • Deadlines are strictly enforced.    
  • Late enrolments will require quick payments, sometimes within 24 hours, and must be paid for before classes start.

These fees are not mandatory, and students can decide if they want these services or not.   

  • ETS TRANSIT PASS: $100/month   
  • Transit passes can be purchased online here

  • Recreation Fees: $132.88/term

Delivery Methods

  • Face to Face: Where: In-person meetings. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Face-to-face instruction at all class meetings. Location may be on campus or at a worksite.
  • Blended: Where: Mixture of in-person & online components. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Combination of face-to-face and online components at specific times. Some online components may be accessed online anytime.
  • Hyflex: Where: Choice to attend in-person or online meetings. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. For each class, students choose to attend in-person with the instructor or online at a specific time.
  • Remote Live Delivery: Where: Online with instructor. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Instruction is delivered at set times online. Students do not come to campus.
  • Remote On-Demand Delivery: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online. While there are no set class meetings, there may be set due dates and deadlines for some activities. Students may interact with peers through virtual tools.
  • Remote Independent: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online, with no instructor support. While students choose when to do coursework, there may be set due dates and deadlines. 
  • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
