Course Overview
Disaster and Emergency Management (D&EM) focuses primarily on preventing, preparing for, responding to, and recovering from specific hazard events, but often it assumes a standardized, response-centric approach from a Western, North American, or urban perspective; one that fails to address the intricacies of working with isolated, marginalized, or distinct communities. This course introduces various distinct and geographically dispersed communities.
With the knowledge and skills gained in this course, you will be able to better anticipate challenges and provide appropriate and inclusive efforts that will more effectively meet the needs and respect the priorities for distinct communities across the system of disaster and emergency management.
