Celebrating the NAIT Class of 2023

Published on June 21, 2023

More than 3,700 NAIT graduates will be celebrated at the polytechnic’s 2023 Convocation ceremonies, June 26 and 27 at the Edmonton Convention Centre.

Six ceremonies spanning the two days will celebrate graduates from NAIT’s four schools – School of Health and Life Sciences, JR Shaw School of Business, School of Skilled Trades, and School of Applied Sciences and Technology. Graduates will hear from special guests including the 2023 honorary degree recipients

NAIT will celebrate the inaugural graduation classes of four skilled trades diploma programs which all launched in fall 2021. Staff and students from Advanced Plumbing Technology, Advanced Welding Technology, Automotive Service Technology and Electrical Installations Technology will celebrate their achievements on June 27, with graduates crossing the stage at 4 p.m.

Convocation is an important milestone in a student’s journey and a special acknowledgement of their hard work and accomplishments. NAIT grads are equipped with the skills and competencies they need to succeed and to make an impact in communities across Alberta, Canada and the world.

“NAIT is committed to the success of learners, and Convocation is a significant accomplishment which encapsulates the fulfillment of this promise,” says Peter Leclaire, NAIT vice-president, academic. “As NAIT grads embark on their journeys, they carry with them the knowledge, aptitude and experiences gained to make an impact in their chosen field. We are very proud of each graduate on this remarkable achievement and the bright futures that lie ahead.”

Each ceremony will be livestreamed at nait.ca/convocation so family and friends living anywhere in the world can join the celebration.

Expectations of new graduate Aldo Fumagalli (Nanosystems Engineering Technology '23) were far exceeded during his NAIT experience, and now he’s on a path towards a fulfilling career in research.

The young scientist took advantage of a year-long student research co-op with the polytechnic’s Clean Technologies Team. What began as an opportunity to hone his laboratory skills and gain valuable research experience resulted in Fumagalli working on and making notable contributions to one of the largest freshwater microplastics studies ever done in Canada.

Now, Fumagalli is taking the skills and impact from his co-op experience to join the Clean Technologies Team as a full-time research assistant. READ MORE

Fumagalli will cross the stage during the ceremony on Tuesday, June 27 at 10 a.m.
