NAIT was proud to have several of our dedicated donors recognized at the 2023 National Philanthropy Day awards celebration held in Edmonton on November 15, 2023. Their long-standing contributions over several NAIT programs push polytechnic pursuits and support students as they get the skills to enter innovative and in-demand fields. We would like to thank Janice Hansuk and the Lakusta family, MIC Medical Imaging and Myshak for their generous support of NAIT students.
MIC Medical Imaging - Since 2019, MIC Medical Imaging has offered NAIT the use of their Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) space, equipment and staff oversight to give students firsthand experience generating MRI diagnostic images. This generous gift-in-kind has provided hundreds of invaluable hours for students’ experiential learning. “Not only did [having the opportunity to gain experience at MIC Medical Imaging] accelerate my capability as a student technologist, but it made the transition to a fast-paced, real-world setting smooth and comfortable,” says MRI student Austin Harrison. The partnership between MIC Medical Imaging and NAIT enriches students’ training, builds their confidence, and provides workforce ready graduates that make an immediate impact in our province.
Myshak Group of Companies - Is a family owned and operated service group, supplying crane and equipment rentals and other services across Canada. Over the past 20 years, Myshak has provided support to help NAIT students gain firsthand experience. Recently they donated the use of a boom truck and a rough terrain crane valued at $1.2 million, as well as assisted NAIT with the procurement of an all-terrain crane. Myshak is currently supporting students by donating $10,000 to create scholarships for a boom truck apprentice and a mobile crane apprentice.
Lakusta Family and Janice Hansuk - Ervin Lakusta strongly believed in the power of education and was eager to help students achieve their educational goals. After the tragic passing of his two sons in 2017, Ervin established a memorial bursary at NAIT in each of their names. His sons, Todd and Mark Lakusta, lived on in the students aided in their names in the Engineering Design Technology and Chemical Technology programs. Ervin was heartened by students’ messages of thanks and enjoyed reading each year how his donation helped others, so much so that when Ervin passed in 2022, his niece, Janice Hansuk, committed to continuing this legacy. Janice established an endowment at NAIT to provide the Ervin Lakusta Memorial Bursary supporting a Geomatics Engineering Technology student each year.
