This program is not currently accepting applications.

NAIT’s Food and Beverage Service certificate program will prepare you to succeed in the food and beverage industry as a front-line service professional. You’ll be equipped with skills and knowledge in etiquette, food safety, productivity and efficient revenue generation. As the hospitality and tourism industries recover in Canada, the demand for skilled workers is increasing. Join this growing field and learn the knowledge and skills employers are looking for.

Earn while you learn at NAIT, develop industry-recognized hospitality skills on the job, and gain valuable knowledge through on-campus and online courses. Most of your time will be spent learning on-the-job, paired with on-campus and online courses.

This 8-month, full-time certificate program is a partnership between NAIT and key hospitality employers. Graduates will have the opportunity to continue into the Hospitality Management diploma program, where they will expand their supervisory skills and career opportunities in the accommodations, event management and tourism industries.

Build in-demand hospitality skills

Gain the knowledge and skills to succeed in the food and beverage industry as a front-line service professional. The delivery of food and beverage is diverse: service can be as intricate as a chateaubriand prepared tableside or as simple as pre-wrapped sandwich handed across a countertop.  Providing customers with refreshments, at any level, requires rigorous training in areas such as guest interaction, food safety and product knowledge.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be able to:

  • demonstrate communication skills and professional conduct in alignment with industry and organizational expectations and standards
  • engage with guests to create exceptional hospitality experiences and build customer loyalty
  • demonstrate mastery of food and beverage techniques in diverse hospitality settings

Hands-on learning:

The majority of your time will spent learning on-the-job with one of our industry partners; Compass Group Canada, SSP Canada or Fort Edmonton Management Company. Our hands-on learning approach will allow you to take what you learned in the classroom and apply it on the job immediately. This valuable hands-on learning will take place during the fall and winter semesters.

Classroom and study hours:

In addition to the industry work placement, you will take courses on-campus for the first 2 weeks of the program as well as online throughout the 8 months.

Career Outcomes

Graduates of the Food and Beverage Service program are in high demand. This program allows graduates to enter the workforce within 8 months.
