Monday Morning Smudge 

Mondays beginning at 8:15 am - Year round

Drop by the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre Monday mornings at 8:15 am to learn, observe, or participate in this cultural practice. Each summer, the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre team spends time medicine picking to collect sage for smudging.  If you are unavailable during this time, feel free to smudge any time during our office hours. All are welcome!

Drop in Beading

Fridays, 12:00-1:00pm  - May to August

Materials will be provided and guidance is available for anyone who has limited or no experience. This is a casual event and we welcome all to visit the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre to learn a new skill, create your own project, or simply spend time sharing your experiences.

Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre Open House

Tuesday September 9th, 2025

Couldn't make it to Indigenous Student Orientation? Visit the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre for a tour of the space (including a kitchen, study lounge, cultural room, etc.) and meet our welcoming  Team at NAIT as we begin a new school year. Students can enter a draw to win a prize while learning about the services we provide to First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students. We look forward to meeting you!

NAIT Treaty Days 

September 23-25, 2025

This annual celebration includes ceremony, music, dance, artwork, and traditions from Indigenous cultures in Canada. Beginning with a tipi raising and pipe ceremony in the CAT quad, the 3 day event takes place over various location at Main Campus and includes Métis jigging, and pow-wow dancing and drumming, and more.

Stew & Bannock Lunch

Once per month, 11:30-1:00pm - September to March

The Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre hosts a Stew and Bannock lunch as a familiar way to build community, expand your network, and share your experiences with others. NAIT service areas may attend the Stew and Bannock lunches such as Counselling, Career Services, and Learning Services, to showcase the services available to students on campus. This event also provide an opportunity for industry to attend and promote job opportunities or scholarships to current students. Cultural Advising

2-3 Times per month - September to March

Cultural Advisor, Lonny Potts, is from Paul First Nation in Wabamun, Alberta and joined NAIT in 2023. In his role, he shares cultural knowledge and guidance to students on their post secondary journey. You may find him sharing stories, guiding those navigating challenges, smudging, or offering teachings about identity, resilience, and more.

Matriarch Circle 

Once per month - September to March

The NAIT Matriarch Circle will offer a dedicated space for Indigenous women-identifying students, and two-spirits students at NAIT in the form of a monthly Sharing Circle. This Sharing Circle aims to foster cultural connection, mentorship, and peer support, while honoring Indigenous traditions and teachings. The circle will empower participants by nurturing their academic journeys and enhancing their sense of community and cultural identity.
