CAMS Winter 2023 Update

Bold Health Innovation Starts here header

We are nearing the end of the 2023 Winter Semester, spring is around the corner and NAIT CAMS is once again bustling with activity.

Simulation

We continue to deliver experiential learning to NAIT programs through simulation. We have been busy throughout the semester and are looking forward to a couple of jam‐packed weeks to finish things off. It will be all hands‐on deck to end the semester, with everyone from the Primary and Advanced Care Paramedic programs to the Veterinary Medical Assistant program coming in. Good luck to all students in
their simulations and on their exams!

We were very excited to host a tour for Alberta Health Services and NAIT Executive. From a car accident to a pediatric emergency, it was thrilling to be able to show the full capabilities of CAMS to AHS.

Innovation

CAMS and the Interprofessional Education Passport program once again put on an IPE/Innovation event this semester and have exciting things planned for the next year of the program, including a joint venture with the Alberta Innovates Alberta Clinical Research Consortium.

We have seen tours and visits from many innovators and service providers in the province and beyond, including from Red River College in Manitoba. CAMS has been engaging the skills of the NAIT photographer, capturing new imagery. Look out for that coming up!

CAMS staff has also been out and about at events around the province including, the API Health Innovation Hub. Other great events have included the BioAlberta Policy Forum, the Health Cities Breakfast, the Telus Community Safety and Wellness Accelerator Showcase, and the Startup TNT Life Sciences Summit Top 5 Pitch Night, where CAMS’ Director Kerri Oshust had fun, made friends, and built
companies.

We are looking forward to the Alberta Innovates Health Gamechangers Conference on April 26‐27. We will have a booth there so be sure to stop by and say hello.

Education

The staff at CAMS have several research projects underway, including an Animal Assisted Intervention study with NAIT’s very own Flynn the Therapy Dog and Linda Shaw. A paper written by Michele Edwards, Marius Renaud, Joe and Cam Macpherson, and Efrem Violato has been accepted by the Clinical Simulation in Nursing. The paper, The Use of Simulation Best Practices when Investigating Virtual
Simulation in Healthcare: A Scoping Review, access the article here. As other projects wrap up and the summer gets started, we are looking forward to bringing more research to publication.
