Course Overview

Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and patient care are essential concepts and skills required of all Oral Health Care Providers (OHCPs). Students in this course will examine the factors associated with infectious diseases and the impact on IPC. Diseases of special concern in dentistry and the measures and procedures used to prevent the spread of infection in the dental care environment will be discussed. Students will examine the aspects of patient care associated with these activities and learn how to apply IPC procedures established by appropriate legislation and regulatory bodies to maintain personal and public safety. The skills and knowledge developed through this course support the scope of practice for Registered Dental Technologists and Registered Dental Technicians to perform restricted activities.
