Course Overview

In this interactive course, participants will learn about the roles, responsibilities, and organization of an Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC). Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to explain the role of the Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) and develop an Incident Action Plan (IAP).

The course provides an overview of all key positions within the ECC when using the Incident Command System (ICS) model. At the end of this course you will be able to explain the relationship between the ECC and the supported incident site as well as the relationship between the ECC and strategic decision makers. You will also be able to develop an IAP by utilizing planning fundamentals, knowing how plans are developed, and knowing how planning works across all ECC functional areas.

It is required that you complete CDEM100 before enrolling in this course. If you have completed an equivalent course such as ICS-100 outside of NAIT, please provide a copy of your approved certificates to continuingeducation@nait.ca.

It is recommended that you complete CDEM110 (ICS-200) before enrolling in this course.

  • Remote Live Delivery: Where: Online with instructor. When: Course is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Instruction is delivered at set times online. Students do not come to campus.
  • Remote On-Demand Delivery: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online. While there are no set class meetings, there may be set due dates and deadlines for some activities. Students may interact with peers through virtual tools.
  • Remote Independent: Where: Online anytime. When: No set class meetings. Coursework is accessed on-demand and online, with no instructor support. While students choose when to do coursework, there may be set due dates and deadlines. 
  • Work Placement: Where: In-person meetings. When: Work is scheduled at a specific time for students to attend. Onsite work integrated learning. Location at a worksite.
