Student for a Day
What is Student for a Day?
Student for a Day is an opportunity for prospective students to experience what a day in their program of interest feels like. By attending Student for a Day, prospective students can meet with a NAIT advisor and attend classes/labs to get a glimpse into their program of interest.
Student for a Day is intended for individuals that have done significant research into their program of interest. We recommend attending Open House and/or Program Previews before registering for Student for a Day.
Please note that due to high demand, we will prioritize those registrants that have shown comprehensive research into their program of interest. There will be a place to indicate the research you've done on the Student for a Day Registration Form (see note below).
Student for a Day registration is now closed for the semester. Registration for the winter semester will open in January. We also encourage prospective students to attend NAIT Program Previews
starting in January.

What is included in Student for a Day?
NAIT has a wide range of programs, and therefore Student for a Day will look different for each program. Typically, Student for a Day visits will include an advising appointment and shadowing of at least one class or lab from your program of interest. We will also send you a self-guided tour route so that you can explore campus and get to know our services and facilities during your visit.
What information would be covered during a general advising appointment?
NAIT’s Academic Advisors are here to help you explore your program options, guide you in creating a personal education and career plan, and help you determine the pathways to get there. This is done through
- guided and independent exploratory activities
- by asking open-ended questions
- considering your interests, values, and goals
- by facilitating informed decision-making to make the best decision for your situation
Our advisors can also help you explore funding options, help you create a budget to meet your needs, as well as provide immigration advising should this be of benefit to you. Our academic advisors are here to provide a holistic student experience, and ensure you understand next steps to guide you on your journey.
Will I get to spend the entire day with a current student?
When possible, we will pair you with a current student for each class or lab that you attend.
Will I have a chance to talk to instructors about their industry experience?
While there may be an opportunity to talk to instructors, it is not a guarantee as they will be focused on teaching the class/lab you are observing.
Student for a Day is an opportunity to experience a day as a student in your program of interest, but it is not a career investigation or informational interview opportunity. That said, during your advising appointment, our advisors can introduce you to resources to help you learn more about jobs and the labour market in your area of interest.
What is the minimum age requirement?
Student for a Day is only available for those students that are at least 15 years of age.
