NAIT will celebrate Indigenous culture at the annual Aboriginal Culture Day with a series of events and activities taking place September 22 on Main Campus. At the heart of the day’s activities are educational components where attendees will learn about the significance of each event and ceremony while experiencing Indigenous culture.
The learning will begin with a tipi raising, which will be guided by Derek Thunder, manager of the Nîsôhkamâtotân Centre at NAIT, and Elder Francis Whiskeyjack, who will explain the meaning each aspect of the tipi holds.
Media are invited to Aboriginal Culture Day at NAIT to learn alongside the NAIT community and for a photo opportunity as the tipi is raised. Derek Thunder is available for interviews following the tipi raising to talk about the day's events.

NAIT values the role education plays in the reconciliation journey. Aboriginal Culture Day will begin a week of learning and reflection at NAIT leading up to the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day on September 30.
