Girls try out welding, machining and carpentry at NAIT camp

Published on August 09, 2019

EDMONTON – Girls aged 11 to 14 are learning about sheet metal, welding, auto body, machining and carpentry at an unconventional NAIT summer camp this week aimed at introducing them to the skilled trades.

The Journey Girls camp offers 13 teens and pre-teens a behind-the-scenes look at five NAIT trades programs from July 22 to 26. The camp wraps up Friday with a carpentry project in which the girls each build a decorative box and use a router to carve their names in it.

Media are invited to attend the camp, see the girls at work and talk to the campers and their NAIT instructors.

Please note: Safety equipment (safety glasses and ear plugs) must be worn and will be provided on site.
