NAIT students get real-world experience developing designs to convert an office building into multi-family housing

EDMONTON – Teams of NAIT students are getting real-world experience by developing designs to convert an office building owned and operated by ProCura Real Estate Services near main campus into multi-family housing.

The unique, 18-month partnership with the local real estate developer has involved about 50 students from the Alternative Energy Technology, Architectural Technology, Interior Design Technology, Landscape Architectural Technology and Business Administration – Marketing programs.

Students will present their projects to redesign the Kingsway Professional Centre to a team of judges from ProCura and NAIT. ProCura has donated $40,000 to provide scholarships for the winning team members including a $500 honorarium to each student for participating in the interdisciplinary extra-curricular design project. ProCura staff have also provided many hours of mentorship to students. The company plans to incorporate some of the students’ ideas into its future re-purposing projects.

Media are invited to view some of the projects and speak to students, instructors and ProCura representatives.
