Culinary Team NAIT returning to United Arab Emirates for international competition

Prestigious Emirates Salon Culinaire runs Feb. 21-25 in Dubai

Members of Culinary Team NAIT will compete against professional chefs from around the world at Emirates Salon Culinaire, which runs Feb. 21-25 in Dubai. NAIT will be involved in two cooking competitions, where team members will have 60 minutes to prepare an Asian Sea Bass and 60 minutes to prepare a beef dish, using only secondary cuts.

Team members have been training regularly at Main Campus, simulating the timed competitions. The students and recent graduates who make up Culinary Team NAIT developed their own recipes, with input and feedback from the coaches. In Dubai, their dishes will be evaluated on the basis of composition, originality, taste and presentation.

The team going to Dubai consists of Francis Flores, Tung Nguyen, Alexander Maryniak, Landen Swick, Christine McLean, Lanaya Hooper, Tuyen Lai, Cici Wang and coaches Ganesh Subramanya and Chris Short.

QUICK FACTS 

  • NAIT last competed at the Emirates Salon Culinaire in 2012, returning home with 10 medals, including six silver and four bronze. 
  • More than 1,300 young chefs are expected at this particular competition. 
  • Members of Culinary Team NAIT went through a competitive process to be selected to be part of the team. To be selected they must demonstrate aptitude, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
